Munich´s Old Botanical Garden is located at Lenbachplatz, close to Karlplatz (Stachus) and the main station. It was built 1804-1814 by landscape architect Frederick Louis Sckell. After the New Botanical Garden had opened its doors in 1914, the (old) Botanical Garden turned into a public park. The remaining main attractions are the Neptune Fountain in the middle of the facility and a cafe in historic style, today's Park Café. In addition a small building was constructed which should serve as the studio of sculptor Josef Thorak. It was destroyed in World War II and later rebuilt by Munich artists. This location, called Munich Kunstpavillion, is now used for exhibitions. The original function of the Old Botanical Garden is still represented by a number of exotic trees.
