Alter Hof (The Old Court) is located in Munich's old town. Under the Emperor Ludwig "der Bayer" (Ludwig the Bavarian, Ludwig IV.) it became the first permanent imperial seat of power in Germany. From 13 to 15 century it served as the residence of the Wittelsbach family. The multi-piece construction changed with the development of the city of Munich. After its destruction in World War II it was rebuilt in 1950. In the floor of the Old Court you will now find the central museum and information center of the country's castles and since 2007 the exhibition "Munich Imperial Castle".
