MUNICH: HOSTAGE DRAMA IN THE OLYMPIC VILLAGE 1972

During the Olympic Summer Games in Munich in 1972 Palestinian terrorists attacked the Israeli team in its housing inside the Olympic Village (31 Connollystreet). Altogether 17 people died. The attack is often referred to as the Munich Massacre. The Palestinian terrorist organization Black September took eleven athletes of the Israeli team hostage. Two of the hostages have been murdered already in the Olympic Housing. In a failed rescue attempt all the other hostages, a German policeman and five terrorists were killed later at the Furstenfeldbruck airport. The building where the attack took place is almost unchanged today. You will find a memorial plaque in front of the former headquarters of the Israeli team at Connollystraße 31.
