Three of the ancient town-gates have survived over the years.
Karlstor
The most famous town-gate is the Karlstor, situated right at the Karlsplatz, a large square in the city-center, not far away from the central station and from Marienplatz. The Karlstor is also "the entrance" to Kaufinger Street, the biggest shopping street in downtown Munich. From spring to autumn you can enjoy a beautiful fountain in the middle of Karlsplatz. Around christmas you will find an ice rink right in front of the Karlstor.
