MUNICH: OLD TOWN HALL & TOY MUSEUM

The building of the Altes Rathaus [Old Town Hall] nowadays hosts Munich´s Spielzeugmuseum [Toy Museum]. The building was first documented in 1310. Its Grand Hall was constructed 1392-1394.  The Old Town Hall was redesigned in late-gothic style 1470-1480 and during the Renaissance the building was restored in neo-gothic style 1861-1864. In 1874 the mayor moved to the New Town Hall. Because of the increasing traffic, that led right across the Marienplatz until the subway was built in the 1970s, two gateways were cut through the building in 1877 and again in 1934.
