Did you know that the world famous Schloss Neuschwanstein received its present name first after the death of its builder, king Ludwig II.? The king had this unbelievable castle built 1868-1892. The expenses were gigantic and almost brought the bavarian state to ruin. The castle is situated on the top of a rock towering over a gorge in the river Pöllat. You will enjoy memorable views if you do not only visit the castle but also the surrounding area.
